GARDINER TAVERN ROOM KEY #28

The Teddy Bear Tavern and Cafe

The Fox Hole Cafe and Lounge

Port Umpqua Courier July 14, 1960 – Lou Fox announced this week the opening of a new dining and dancing spot in Gardiner. To be called the “Foxhole,” the new room is located behind the Teddy Bear. There is an entrance at the side of the building. Dining, featuring steaks and seafood dinners, will begin at 6 p.m. and dancing at 9 p.m. On weekends there will be live music.

The room is paneled in Philippine mahogany. The back bar is an antique piece of great historical interest having been brought around the Horn in a sailing vessel.

For years the location was an ice cream parlor and lately has been used as a storeroom. A rich motif of browns and reds dominate the room and indirect lighting sets off the decor. Parquet acoustic tile covers the ceiling. The restaurant will be operated by Mrs. Marie Smith.
